More on that Michael Jackson...

I'm not even going to post the story since we all saw it comming. But he is infact returning for 10 concerts. We'll find out if anyone actually shows up to watch him. The pope states that "he is a Michael Jackson fan, and will be at at least on of the concerts."

Story: here.

Those Lieing Brits...

LONDON (Reuters) - Two out of three Britons have lied about reading books they have not, and George Orwell's "1984" tops the literary fib list, according to a survey published Thursday.

Commissioned by organizers of World Book Day, an annual celebration of reading in Britain, the study also shows that the author people really enjoy reading is J.K. Rowling, creator of the bestselling Harry Potter wizard series. [Did they interview a bunch of kids?]

According to the survey, 65 percent of people have pretended to have read books, and of those, 42 percent singled out "1984." Next on the list came "War and Peace" by Leo Tolstoy and in third place was James Joyce's "Ulysses." [*Inserts jokes about made up statistics here*]

The Bible was in fourth position, and newly elected President Barack Obama's autobiography "Dreams from My Father" came ninth.

Aside from a list of ten titles which respondents were asked to tick or leave blank, many admitted wrongly claiming they had read other "classics" including Jane Austen, the Bronte sisters, Charles Dickens, Fyodor Dostoyevsky and Herman Melville. [This sounds like a terrible survey...They just make a sheet with a list of ten books, they ask people to check the ones they've read, then they assume all the checks are lies. They also leave a line for "other books you've read," where people can claime to have read any number of books.]

Asked why they had lied about reading a book, the main reason was to impress the person they were speaking to. [Great detective work there.... I coulda told you that without asking them.]

The study, carried out on the World Book Day website in January and February, surveyed 1,342 members of the public. [Requirments: Must not have read any of the books. That way when someone checks that they've read the book, they can mark it as a lie. Didn't know surveying could be this simple...]

Those who lied have claimed to have read:

1. 1984 - George Orwell (42 percent) [Read]

2. War and Peace - Leo Tolstoy (31) [Read]

3. Ulysses - James Joyce (25) [Read]

4. The Bible (24) [Read]

5. Madame Bovary - Gustave Flaubert (16) [Never even heard of it.]

6. A Brief History of Time - Stephen Hawking (15) [I'll let the statistics speak for this one.]

7. Midnight's Children - Salman Rushdie (14) [This was about Midnight's Children... of course.]

8. In Remembrance of Things Past - Marcel Proust (9) [Sounds alright, can't say I've read it.]

9. Dreams from My Father - Barack Obama (6) [Never heard of this guy...]

10. The Selfish Gene - Richard Dawkins (6) [Nope.]

[11. Cookies: A History - Myself (0)] [Darn... Nobody wants to read my book...]

Michael Jackson, Comeback King:

This article doesn't even need to be read. Here's what you need to know:

1. Michael Jackson is 50.
2. Michael Jackson is planning a comeback.
3. He didn't do so well in London in 2006.
4. The pope has his doubts.
5. Prince did it.
6. "Thriller" is the top selling album of all time (750 Million copies sold).

LONDON, March 5 (Reuters) - U.S. pop star Michael Jackson is
expected to announce a series of comeback concerts on Thursday. [That would be today...]

The 50-year-old, still viewed as "The King of Pop" by his
fans, has lived the life of a virtual recluse since his
acquittal of child abuse charges at a 2005 trial.

Jackson's last album of new material was "Invincible",
released in 2001, and his position as one of pop music's biggest
acts has been increasingly overshadowed by bizarre behaviour, a
changing appearance and questions over his health.

Organisers have not disclosed details of the comeback, but
Billboard magazine reported that Jackson's Las Vegas-style
"residency" at London's 20,000-capacity O2 arena would kick off
in July.

The first 10 dates have been booked, and the length of the
run would depend on demand for tickets, Billboard added.

Jackson is expected to be at a press conference later on
Thursday to confirm the dates.

Even before a single concert has been confirmed, there is
widespread scepticism that Jackson is capable of playing a
potentially lengthy series of gigs.

British bookmaker William Hill has offered odds that Jackson
would not turn up for a run of concerts.

Jackson is one of the biggest musical acts of all time, with
an estimated 750 million albums sold. "Thriller", released in
1982, is the best selling album ever.

If he can pull it off, the string of concerts at a single
venue would be both lucrative and less demanding than a
full-fledged tour.
But if the comeback fails to materialise, or is regarded as
a flop, Jackson would find it harder than ever to resurrect a
career that has lain lifeless for so long.

Jackson performed in London at the World Music Awards in
2006, but the much-hyped return was described by critics as a
shambles after he sang, in a broken voice, just a few lines of
his charity single "We Are The World".

Fellow performer Prince gave his profile a major boost with
a successful 21-night stay at the O2 in 2007 which amassed a
reported $22 million, and Britney Spears is due top appear there
in June.

Jackson began his musical career with his siblings in the
Motown group the Jackson 5 and went on release a string of hit
solo albums.

["Think they can do it?"
-"It'll take a miracle."]

I for one don't think anything will come of this. Oh, in other news, I just received some cookies in the mail. Thanks to whoever sent them! They were delicious! If anyone else wants to send me cookies the address is:

Another bad idea from the UK:
